CVNE, Monopole Clásico Blanco 2018

from £24.50

For lovers of exciting white wine, this is a hidden gem which immediately becomes a firm favourite within a few sips, a stunning 93-point rated white Rioja from CVNE.

Made with hand-harvested Viura grapes (97%), the magic of this wine comes with the addition of of a small quantity of manzanilla sherry, developed by the traditional method of biological crianza under "velo de flor". The wines ageing contributes to its unique characteristics, adding aromas of chamomile, dried fruits, and a long and persistent aftertaste. The marked acidity increases the freshness and makes for a wine that is divine on its own, or particularly special with a range of foods.

We’ve enjoyed it with turkey on Christmas day, a dinner party apértif and with barbecued prawns in summer. An extraordinary wine that everyone deserves to try at least once.

Nose: Incredibly intoxicating scents of yellow plum, resin, beeswax, golden apple, honeysuckle, almonds, bruised apples and chamomile.

Palate: There is a generous mouthfeel here thanks to the addition of a small amount of Manzanilla, which gives texture and caresses the palate. The acidity and freshness is remarkable as flecks of dried fruit and white flowers percolate. There is wonderful tension between sweet ripe fruits and salinity on a long, persistent finish. Exceptional.
